TODAY’S PASSAGE

From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:

No. Grace is strength that does not need to dominate. Mercy that does not keep score.

REFLECTION

We live in a world obsessed with power, control, and keeping track of who owes what to whom. We count wrongs like currency, storing up grievances as if they were treasures. We mistake aggression for strength and believe that being right means making others wrong. But this passage turns everything upside down, revealing a truth that transforms everything: real strength doesn’t need to prove itself, and genuine mercy doesn’t keep a ledger.

Think about the most powerful moments in your own life. Were they when you dominated someone in an argument? Or were they the times you chose gentleness when you could have crushed someone with your words? The times you forgave when you had every right to hold a grudge? Grace is the strength to be vulnerable, to extend kindness even when it’s not deserved, to choose love when retaliation would feel so satisfying. It’s the power to say “no” to our ego’s demand to win, to be superior, to keep score. This is the strength that actually changes hearts—including our own.

Mercy that doesn’t keep score is perhaps the most radical form of love there is. It means releasing people from their debts to us, emotional and otherwise. It means choosing connection over being right. It means understanding that we all stumble, we all fail, and we all desperately need the same grace we’re being called to give. When we stop counting, we start truly loving. When we stop dominating, we start truly connecting. This is the way of Jesus—the way of a love so strong it doesn’t need to defend itself, so secure it can afford to be gentle.

THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…

Today, ask yourself: Where am I trying to dominate instead of extending grace? What scores am I keeping that are weighing down my heart and my relationships? What would it feel like to be so secure in love that I didn’t need to prove anything or keep track of anything?
