President Donald Trump bashed former FBI Director James Comey for a social media post Trump claimed was a call for violence against him.
Comey was indicted on two charges, which were filed on Tuesday, stemming from a controversial Instagram post last year depicting seashells arranged to form the numbers “86 47.”
“”86 is a mob term for “kill him.” They say 86 him! 86 47 means “kill President Trump.” James Comey, who is a Dirty Cop, one of the worst, knows this full well! EIGHT MILES OUT, SIX FEET DOWN!” the president posted to Truth Social Tuesday night. “Didn’t he also lie to the FBI about this??? I think so!”

Federal prosecutors argue that the image is a veiled threat against the commander-in-chief, with “86” being a slang term for “eject or eliminate”, and “47” a reference to the 47th president.
The former FBI director was indicted on two federal charges, which focus on threatening the president of the United States and interstate communication of a threat, as he disseminated it online.
Comey had reportedly deleted the post from last May shortly after, claiming he didn’t realize the message was associated with violence and stating that he opposed violence of any kind. In the midst of the recent indictment, he continues to maintain his innocence.
“Nothing has changed with me. I’m still innocent, I’m still not afraid and I still believe in the independent federal judiciary,” Comey said in a video posted online on Tuesday.
In an interview with Fox News last year following the incident, Trump declared that Comey “knew exactly” what the message meant.
“He knew exactly what that meant. A child knows what that means. That meant ‘assassination,’” Trump said then.
The indictment comes after a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, where the suspect was reportedly targeting the president and other officials.
Many have pointed out that violent rhetoric against Trump and others has led to real-world consequences.
