A high-ranking U.S. Air Force officer was reportedly extracted from Iranian territory in what President Donald Trump described as a “historic” rescue mission.
The high-stakes extraction capped a weekend of American military might, punctuated by precision strikes that leveled Tehran’s command centers and eliminated two of the regime’s top military leaders.
The rescue of the high-ranking U.S. Air Force officer from deep within Iranian territory stands as a historic feat of military coordination, President Trump declared, occurring against a backdrop of devastating precision strikes that have crippled the upper echelons of the Islamic regime.
Trump, speaking from the White House on Monday, further detailed the harrowing recovery of a weapons systems officer whose F-15E Strike Eagle was downed over the rugged, snow-capped mountains of southwestern Iran.
While the pilot of the aircraft was recovered shortly after the crash, the second crew member — a highly respected colonel — spent more than twenty-four hours evading capture while being pursued by Iranian ground forces and tracking dogs.
The president described the mission as a legendary extraction involving over two hundred special forces personnel, including Navy SEALs, who operated under the cover of a massive CIA-led deception campaign to pull the officer from the brink of capture.
The rescue operation unfolded as the United States and its allies intensified an air campaign that has effectively decapitated the Iranian military leadership.
Surfacing reports confirmed that two of the country’s most powerful military figures, Major General Majid Khademi, the head of IRGC intelligence, and Asghar Bakeri, a commander within the elite Quds Force, were killed on Monday during targeted airstrikes on high-security compounds in Tehran.
The strikes, which sent plumes of smoke over Azadi Square, represent the most significant blow to the Iranian government since the start of the conflict on February 28th.
President Trump, alongside Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, reiterated that the successful recovery of the American officer, despite heavy resistance that saw several U.S. aircraft sustain damage from ground fire, serves as a testament to American military superiority and the lengths to which the nation will go to protect its own.
However, the tactical triumph of the rescue does little to ease the rising tension as a critical deadline regarding the Strait of Hormuz approaches.
During his address, the president issued a stern ultimatum, warning that if the Iranian regime does not move toward a diplomatic resolution or reopen the vital oil passageway by Tuesday, the U.S. will shift its targeting to include civilian infrastructure, such as power plants and bridges.
While the rescued colonel is currently recovering in a military hospital from dehydration and minor injuries, the broader conflict remains on a knife-edge, with the global community watching to see if the recent leadership vacuum in Tehran will lead to a total collapse or a desperate escalation.
