Just one week before the most momentous election in recent memory, more great news has emerged from Team Trump: The successful confirmation of Amy Cony Barrett to the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
Sworn in by Clarence Thomas and hailed around the world as another true feminist achievement, Barrett soared through the final confirmation process despite Democrat tantrums, which were filled with typically histrionic emotions and ultimately idle threats.
Barrett represents yet another Trump promise kept: Trump said he’d announce a female candidate within approximately a week, and he did. He said he’d have the same candidate confirmed before the end of October, and he did. The entire process took just under 40 days, though Supreme Court justices have been confirmed far more quickly than this time period in the past (Democrats do not advertise this fact).
Plus, in classic Trump fashion, whether intended or unintended, Barrett’s final confirmation just happened to coincide with Hillary Clinton’s birthday, which is also on October 26.
Intentional or not, one certainly can see the humor behind this particular observation. And, ironically, Hillary Clinton just emerged in the news yet again, baldly proclaiming that she is “sick to her stomach” over another Trump win.
What a way to celebrate one’s birthday, Hillary. Give it a rest, every now and then.
Returning to Barrett’s confirmation, every Republican except Susan Collins voted in her favor (even Romney pulled through!) while two Independents and all Democrats predictably abstained. Good riddance.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell expressed his relief over the proceedings, noting how Barrett would help ensure the incredible progress that the Trump administration has made over the last four years.
“This is something to really be proud of and feel good about. We made an important contribution to the future of this country … A lot of what we’ve done over the last four years will be undone sooner or later by the next election … They won’t be able to do much about this for a long time to come.” [Source: Fox News]
During Barrett’s swearing-in ceremony, Trump made it clear that she would fulfill her duties as a SCOTUS justice in the way they were always meant to be filled: interpreting the Constitution as it was written.
“Justice Barrett made clear she will issue rulings based solely upon a faithful reading of the law and the Constitution as written not legislate from the bench … The American people put their trust in you and their faith in you as you take up the task of defending our laws, our Constitution and this country we all love.” [Source: Fox News]
In fact, in a glowing editorial that heralds Trump’s track record with judges. The Australian has praised the successful confirmation of Barrett as one of Trump’s greatest accomplishments. Echoing Trump, his achievement is particularly sweet since she will remain loyal to the Constitution, rather than her own personal political whims.
“She is an originalist and a textualist. She interprets the constitution as it was written and she interprets legislation as it is written. In practice, this means she is extremely unlikely to use the court as a mechanism for legislating social policy and conformity to contemporary social ideas on the basis of discovering new meanings in the constitution or stretching the meaning of the legislation.”

If only the journalists at The Australian could talk some sense into the raving Democrats here, who are already ranting about how illegitimate the whole process is. Apparently, things like freedom of speech and constitutional process would be illegitimate to largely lawless Democrats.
Even more, ironically, Barrett was able to be confirmed in the first place due to Democrat Harry Reid’s antics back in 2013. Wishing to overcome the GOP stonewalling of Obama’s radical judicial picks, Reid eliminated the 60-vote threshold in favor of a simple majority to enable Obama to ram through his Constitution-destroying “justices.” So, by confirming Barrett with a simple majority, Republicans were merely following a precedent initially set by the Democrats during Obama’s self-serving reign.
Of course, when Republicans now follow the precedent initially set by Democrats, it’s somehow illegitimate and wrong.
Schumer began spouting off in classic Schumer fashion, producing little more than unintelligible word salad.
“The Republican majority is lighting its credibility on fire … The next time the American people give Democrats a majority in this chamber, you will have forfeited the right to tell us how to run that majority.” [Source: Fox News]
Actually, Schumer, it was more the other way around in this case (i.e., the Democrats forfeited the right to tell Republicans how to run the majority). But Schumer, just like Pelosi and too many other off the rails Democrats, appears to be incapable of shutting up.
