British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has unveiled a controversial contact tracing program amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

“There is a new Test and Trace operation, which will change people’s lives and require a great deal of thought and compliance,” stated the prime minister.

On Wednesday, Johnson called on the British people to continue to staying at home. He noted the government may consider unspecified sanctions for violators of the lockdown.

He added the National Health Service is ramping up coronavirus testing to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“They haven’t been able to get the results back fast enough, so we’re working on all sorts of solutions, including batch testing and other faster methods of testing,” said Johnson.

According to him, nationwide contact tracing will start in Britain this coming Thursday.
