REFLECTION
There’s something sobering yet beautiful about knowing that our lives matter—that every choice, every thought, every intention is seen and known. This passage reminds us that we’re not just going through the motions of existence; we’re building something eternal with every moment we live. The judgment seat of Christ isn’t meant to terrify us but to awaken us to the reality that how we love—or fail to love—shapes not only our earthly experience but our spiritual destiny. God’s Word cuts through our carefully constructed facades and reaches into the deepest places of our hearts, where our true intentions live.
The connection between hatred and murder might seem extreme at first glance, but when we sit with it, the truth becomes clear. When we harbor resentment, nurse grudges, or allow bitterness to take root in our hearts toward another person, we’re killing something sacred—the divine image in them and the capacity for love in ourselves. We might not commit physical violence, but emotional and spiritual violence can be just as destructive. How many relationships have we murdered with our silent contempt? How many bridges have we burned with our refusal to forgive? This passage calls us to examine the hidden hatred we’ve normalized and justified, inviting us instead into the freedom of love.
