TODAY’S PASSAGE
From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:
The actions of my father’s business partner left a deep impression on me. In my immaturity, I attached my pain and confusion to the man himself and then extended that confusion into generalized beliefs that did not belong there. Those beliefs were mine alone — formed without understanding and carried forward until I learned to see clearly. With time, honesty, and grace, I recognized this as my own error and learned forgiveness.
REFLECTION
How often do we take a single painful moment and build an entire mansion of false beliefs around it? Someone hurts us, disappoints us, or acts in ways we don’t understand, and in our wounded state, we don’t just hold them accountable for their actions—we create sweeping narratives about who they are, what their intentions were, and even what entire groups of people are like. This passage captures something profoundly human: our tendency to let pain become our teacher before wisdom has a chance to speak.
The beautiful honesty in this reflection shows us that maturity isn’t about never being hurt or confused. It’s about recognizing when we’ve carried confusion forward into places it doesn’t belong. Think about your own life for a moment. Is there someone you’ve been holding in the prison of your incomplete understanding? Is there a belief you formed in a moment of pain that you’ve never questioned since? The voice of Jesus calls us to something higher than our first reactions—it calls us to the patient work of seeing clearly, even when clarity requires us to admit we were wrong.
What strikes me most powerfully here is the pathway to freedom: time, honesty, and grace. Not just time passing, but time spent in honest self-examination, bathed in grace that allows us to forgive both others and ourselves. This is the love that transforms. This is the faith that heals not by denying our pain, but by refusing to let that pain define our vision forever. When we learn to see clearly, forgiveness becomes not just possible, but inevitable—because we finally understand that holding onto false beliefs hurts us far more than the original wound ever did.
THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…
Today, I invite you to ask yourself: What beliefs am I carrying that were formed in pain rather than understanding? Is there someone I need to see with clearer eyes, releasing both them and myself from the prison of my immature conclusions? Let time, honesty, and grace do their healing work in you.
