TODAY’S PASSAGE
From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:
As the wedding approached, Donna’s parents envisioned a traditional ceremony — a church wedding followed by a reception at a country club overlooking the San Francisco Bay. They were filled with anticipation and pride. I was stunned. I pleaded with her, offering to raise the child as my own regardless of circumstance. She would not explain her reasons. When I asked what her parents knew, she admitted they did not know about the pregnancy. Something shifted inside me. A coldness settled in, and with it my happiness faded. I felt disconnected — from Donna, from myself, and from the inner guidance I had begun to regain. Despite this, I chose to proceed with the wedding, largely for her parents’ sake. They were overjoyed, unaware of what had passed.
REFLECTION
Have you ever felt that coldness settle in? That moment when something shifts and suddenly you feel disconnected—not just from someone you love, but from yourself? This passage captures one of life’s most painful experiences: the loss of inner connection during a crisis. The author had begun to regain his inner guidance, that divine compass we all possess, only to feel it slip away in the face of heartbreak and confusion. It’s a reminder that our spiritual journey isn’t always linear. Sometimes we take steps forward, only to find ourselves stumbling backward when life delivers unexpected blows.
What strikes me most is the honesty here. The author doesn’t pretend to be spiritually evolved beyond the pain. He doesn’t claim that faith made everything okay. Instead, he shows us the raw truth: he proceeded with the wedding “largely for her parents’ sake,” moving forward while disconnected from his own truth. How many of us have done something similar? We go through the motions of life—showing up to work, maintaining relationships, fulfilling obligations—while feeling fundamentally disconnected from our authentic selves. We wear the mask of normalcy while inside, a coldness has settled in.
Yet there’s something profound in this passage about unconditional love. Even in his pain, the author offered to raise the child “regardless of circumstance.” That’s the kind of love that transcends logic and self-protection. It’s the love that Jesus modeled—a love that gives without counting the cost. And perhaps that’s the pathway back to our inner guidance: not by forcing ourselves to feel connected again, but by continuing to choose love even when we feel cold and disconnected. The warmth returns not through our striving, but through our willingness to love anyway.
THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…
When have you felt disconnected from your inner guidance during a difficult time? What would it mean for you today to choose love—even when you feel cold, confused, or cut off from your own truth? Perhaps reconnection begins not with having all the answers, but with one small act of authentic love.
