TODAY’S PASSAGE
From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other… You cannot serve God and money.” “Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” They want to know what to do, how to practice, how to be sure they are hearing you and not their own thoughts. “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure… think about these things.”
REFLECTION
We live in a world that constantly demands our allegiance. Our jobs, our bank accounts, our social media feeds, our endless to-do lists—they all whisper promises of security, significance, and peace. Yet how often do we find ourselves exhausted, anxious, and wondering why we feel so empty despite having so much? This passage cuts right to the heart of our modern struggle: we’re trying to serve two masters, and it’s tearing us apart. The peace the world offers is conditional, temporary, and always just out of reach. But the peace Jesus offers? It’s a gift already given, waiting for us to simply receive it.
The beautiful thing about this passage is that it doesn’t just diagnose the problem—it offers us the solution. When we’re confused about whether we’re hearing God’s voice or just our own anxious thoughts, we’re given a clear filter: focus on what is true, honorable, just, and pure. This isn’t about perfection or rigid religious performance. It’s about training our hearts to recognize the difference between the voice of love and the voice of fear. When we catch ourselves obsessing over money, status, or control, we can pause and ask: is this thought leading me toward peace or toward anxiety? Toward love or toward fear?
Choosing to serve God rather than money isn’t about becoming poor or irresponsible—it’s about reordering our priorities so that love leads and everything else follows. When we let our hearts rest in the peace Christ offers, we stop striving and start trusting. We begin to hear His voice more clearly because we’re no longer drowning it out with the noise of worldly pursuits. This is the practice: daily choosing to dwell on what is true and pure, daily releasing our grip on what we cannot control, daily accepting the peace that has already been freely given.

Today, I invite you to ask yourself: what master am I actually serving right now? Where am I seeking peace—from my circumstances and achievements, or from the unchanging love of God? What would it look like to dwell on what is true, honorable, just, and pure in this very moment?
