A witness in the trial of former President Donald Trump testified Thursday that he thought former Trump attorney Michael Cohen was going to “kill himself” over missing out on a spot in the Trump administration.

Keith Davidson, former attorney for Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels, testified that he received a call from Cohen while holiday shopping at a “strangely decorated” department store sometime in December 2016, where Cohen aired his frustration about not having a place in Trump’s cabinet. Davidson agreed he had concerns for Cohen’s “physical safety” following the call.

“I thought he was going to kill himself,” Davidson said.

Davidson testified that Cohen was “depressed and despondent” at the time. Cohen said something to this effect on the call, according to Davidson.

“It was a long call, and he had told me he was depressed and despondent and said that I — and he used very colorful language about that stage in his life,” Davidson said.

“‘Jesus Christ, can you fucking believe I’m not going to Washington, after everything I have done for that fucking guy, I can’t believe I’m not going to Washington,’” Davidson recalled Cohen as saying. “‘I’ve saved that guy’s ass so many times, you don’t even know.’”

David Pecker, former National Enquirer publisher, has made several statements during his testimony indicating his belief that Cohen was less than reliable. Pecker agreed that Cohen, Trump’s former personal attorney, was “prone to exaggeration.”

Trump is charged by Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for allegedly concealing a hush money payment to Stormy Daniels to cover up an affair.
