President Donald Trump warned NYC Democrat mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani that he better “behave” or face “big problems,” following his previous comments on Israel’s prime minister.

Trump’s warning came during a recent conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where a reporter had asked about Mamdani’s previous vow to arrest the Jewish PM, should he decide to visit New York City for any reason.

Mamdani made the declaration while citing the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant against Netanyahu. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant on November 21, 2024, for alleged war crimes and alleged crimes against humanity related to the ongoing Hamas-Gaza war.

Mamdani, a self-described Democratic socialist, stated in December that “as mayor, New York City would arrest Benjamin Netanyahu.”

“This is a city that our values are in line with international law. It’s time that our actions are also,” he added, referencing the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

At the conference, Netanyahu responded to Mamdani’s pledge to arrest him, to which he simply responded that he’s “not concerned about that.”

“There’s enough craziness in the world, but I guess it never ends. This is appalling, and it’s silly in many ways because it’s just not serious,” Netanyahu added.

The Israeli prime minister also previously described the ICC’s arrest warrant against him for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity as “antisemitic.”

“The anti-Semitic decision of the international court in The Hague is a modern Dreyfus trial, and it will end the same way,” Netanyahu stated, referencing the 19th century trial of Alfred Dreyfus, who was wrongfully convicted of treason due to antisemitism and a cover-up within the French military.

Additionally, President Trump chimed in on Mamdani, stating: “He’s going through a little bit of a honeymoon right now, [and] he might [win], but it all comes through the White House. He needs the money through the White House… He’s going to behave… He better behave, otherwise he’s going to have big problems.”

“We don’t know who the mayor is going to be yet, but this is a communist, he’s not a socialist, he’s a communist,” Trump added. “And he said some really bad things about Jewish people, and he said some really bad things about a lot of people.”

Mamdani, a Muslim and Ugandan-American immigrant, has been a vocal critic of the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Mamdani was able to secure a victory in NYC’s Democrat mayoral primary after campaigning on freezing rent for rent stabilized units, taxpayer-funded city bus passes, and “low cost” city owned grocery stores, among other socialistic policies.
