President Donald Trump said on March 13 that the United States “totally obliterated” all military targets on Iran’s Kharg Island.
“ Moments ago, at my direction, the United States Central Command executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the History of the Middle East, and totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Friday.
“Our Weapons are the most powerful and sophisticated that the World has ever known but, for reasons of decency, I have chosen NOT to wipe out the Oil Infrastructure on the Island.”
Trump warned that he would reconsider his decision to allow the oil infrastructure to remain intact if the Iranian regime or any other country does “anything to interfere with the Free and Safe Passage of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz.”
Uncertainty has rocked the Middle East and markets since the United States and Israel launched Operation Epic Fury against the Iranian regime on Feb. 28.
In the United States, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.63 on March 13, which is up more than 60 cents from the previous month, according to AAA.
The White House has floated lifting restrictions on foreign-owned and crewed ships transporting goods to American ports.
When asked on Wednesday whether companies should continue using the Strait, Trump said, “I think they should,” adding, “We took out all of their mine ships in just about one night.”
Israeli Opposition Leader Yair Lapid has previously suggested that the Iranian regime would experience major setbacks if the energy infrastructure on Kharg Island were destroyed.
“That is what will cripple Iran’s economy and topple the regime,” he wrote on X last Sunday.
